It’s nearly time to deck the halls, and I can hardly wait. It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the holidays. This holiday season, I’ve created a series of Yuletide videos to give you festive home decorating inspiration and tips. In the first video of our three-part series, we’ll take a 2014 holiday home tour of a stately, traditional Austin home. The owners wanted me to imbue welcoming holiday warmth throughout the sprawling space.
To create that feeling of coziness, I chose shades of red and gold as the main color story. Outdoors, the rod-iron gates were festooned with billowy ribbons, pine and bountiful fruit clusters. Past the sparkling water fountain, the stone arched doorway welcomed visitors with a broad pine cone woven garland and fruit cluster wreath.
But inside is where the holiday home tour really begins. Home decor is hardly complete without a focal point which, in this case, was the enormous fireplace mantel. It and the Christmas tree were both decorated in shades of red and gold. Berries, pine cones, poinsettias, oversize ornaments, glittered sprays and lavish ribbon completed the look.
Stay tuned for the next episode of our three-part holiday home decorating series. In it, you’ll learn how I made the ornament clusters shown on the tree in this episode.
