First and foremost, do your research! Read reviews and testimonials. Also, look through portfolios for quality photography. Active, professional home stagers document and showcase their work on their websites and social media.
Interview the home stager to find out:
- Are they insured? This separates the professionals from the hobbyists. Accidents can and will happen, and a professional home stager will carry insurance for any liabilities.
- Do they have a professional portfolio? Photographs should be of the stager’s actual work, not stock photos. Look for on-trend furniture, and be leery of sofas covered with pillows and throws. They may be trying to distract from a thrift store worthy sofa.
- After a staging installation, what is their average days on market?
- Have they had any professional training?
- Do they have any active stagings on the market for you to see?
